Digital Federal Credit Union or DCU is a credit union based in Marlborough, Massachusetts. It has more than 350,000 members and is the 12th largest credit union in the United States of America and the largest credit union in New England in terms of assets and among the top 15 nationwide. DCU has in excess of nearly $4 Billion in assets. According to Callahan & Associates, DCU has been one of the fastest growing large credit unions in the US since 1995. Digital Federal Credit Union is regulated under the authority of the National Credit Union Administration of the US federal government.
DCU has 18 full-service branch locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, although it has members in all over the 50 U.S. states.
Services Offered By Digital Federal Credit Union
DCU offers a variety of financial services that are also offered by most financial institutions like savings accounts, IRA accounts, checking accounts, and Certificate Of Deposits. Moreover, Digital Federal Credit Union also offers members business and auto loans, credit cards, mortgages, home equity lines of credit, brokerage services, insurance services, and investment services.
Digital Federal Credit Union also provides online account access and bill paying through its PC Branch service. However, DCU does not support download of transaction information through Quicken’s “One Step Update” mechanism. Instead, it requires that customers should manually connect to their sites to download transactions. The One Step Update mechanism worked previously, but no longer does because there was a change in the PC Branch authentication mechanism: it shifted from a 1-factor authentication mechanism, a password, to a 1-factor mechanism with a password and a number of challenge questions; although this provides small additional security it does break Quicken’s One Step Update login.
Vision Statement Of The Digital Federal Credit Union
Digital Federal Credit Union has also adopted a vision statement that goes: “all members achieve their financial goals”. This is accomplished by 3 principles that guide the behavior and decisions of employees and the management at DCU which allows the credit union to achieve that vision. These 3 principles known as “The DCU Way” are:
- People Come First
- Do the Right Thing
- Make a Difference
DFCU Consumer Education Program
Digital Federal Credit Union adopted StreetWise, a financial consumer education program on May 2001, to give their members unbiased knowledge on a variety of topics including privacy protection, credit, fraud prevention, car and home buying tips. StreetWise also teaches how services and financial products work. In 2002, DCU furthered the union’s financial education outreach programs by actively promoting and establishing financial literacy among teens by teaching basic skills and knowledge at area high schools.
Digital Federal Credit Union Community Involvement
As a socially responsible organization, Digital Federal Credit Union is also committed to partnering with other organizations that create a difference in the communities they serve. Their major charitable initiative is directed towards the assistance programs that provide a welfare, health or social service for children; or give educational programs or services that primarily benefit the children.
