Mountain America Credit Union or MACU is a federally chartered credit union that is presently headquartered in West Jordan, Utah. It was regulated under the authority of the NCUA or National Credit Union Administration. Mountain America Credit Union is Utah’s 2nd largest credit union. As of 2008, Mountain America Credit Union had $2.8 billion in total assets, approximately 328,000 members, and 62 branch locations.

Mountain America Credit Union is a federally-chartered credit union which means that it is regulated by the agency of the federal government or otherwise known as the National Credit Union Administration. Savings are insured by the FDIC to at least $250,000 USD per account and are backed up by the full faith and credit of the United States of America Government.

Mountain America Credit Union Background Information

Formed in 1934, Mountain America Credit Union was originally the Salt Lake Telephone Employees Credit Union or SLTECU. However, after merging with Postal Workers Credit Union (PWCU) in 1984, the credit union changed its name to Mountain America Credit Union to better reflect the diversity of its membership. In 1988, Mountain America merged with the Utah State Credit Union, becoming the 2nd largest credit union in Utah and setting its course as a modern and full-service financial institution.

As of today, MACU’s extensive network of branch locations and ATMs span much of the Intermountain West, including Nevada, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. Mountain America Credit Union also belong to an extensive shared branching network as well as a number of ATM networks, including the CO-OP Network, which allows all members to complete surcharge-free transactions at all ATM branches (over 25,000) nationwide.
